Promises to Renew CIR Debate

Following President Bush's appearance on the Hill, Senator Harry Reid announced that, following the budget debates, the Senate will bring back S.1348 for consideration.  The current time table lists Wednesday, June 20th as the estimated date that debate will begin, but as the budget debates stall while members of the Senate argue over appropriations, one wonders if the momentum for S.1348 will be able to carry it though to the President's signature...

At present, it has been determined that the amendments to S. 1348 will be limited to 20 - with half chosen by Republicans and half by Democrats.  Thankfully, this should keep bill from becoming the monolithic proportions it was approaching when Senator Reid finally removed it from consideration two weeks ago.  However, given the sharply divided opinions among the Senators, one hopes that limiting the amendments wont keep the Senate from reaching a compromise before we get too close to the election for it to pass at all.  One can only hope that clear heads will prevail... and that they will prevail quickly!
